The M.V. JOY FISHING CLUB was established in Auckland in 1980.
The purpose of the Club is to enable keen fisher-folk to engage in their sport and recreation on a regular basis, and to enjoy the company of like-minded individuals in the Auckland area.
The Club meets on the first Thursday of every month (except January) at St Thomas's Hall, at 6 Islington Ave, New Lynn at 7:30 p.m. There we update members, advise of forthcoming events and take the names of those interested in going fishing on the next outing.

SHAMROCK II - Two months on thre trot and we are out fishing - a very pleasing situation after a few cancelled trips - and this one was our two-boat Club Competition trip out on the Kaipara Harbour. We were a little concerned that there may have been another cancellation when 25 knot winds for forecast for Friday night, but the weather cleared and off we went.
Skipper 'Swampy' took half of us (9) out on the Shamrock II, and the other 9 went out on the Francie. Pouto Pt was the Shamrock's first stop were we started loading up with some very frisky Kahawai, though they were mostly not very large. After we had had our fill of those, the skipper took us down to a couple of positions near 'The Graveyard', and we started to see a few decent sized Snapper come aboard - and even the odd Gurnard.
.
After a while the decent Snapper deserted us and we were plagued with undersize fish after a while and we moved once or twice to finds their elder relations. We finally ploughed over to the South Head area where, despite the very choppy seas, we did haul in a few respectable Snapper. All in all we had a very enjoyable day and most had a decent bag to take home.
FRANCIE - Alistair has kindly sent me a Report for the Francie and a brief extract is included here. "Wayne took us down to the middle ground and we soon started to see
a few pan-sized Snapper come aboard. Then it was off to "The Graveyard" and their sized increased quite a bit - and a very nice specimen came aboard. along with a very nice Kahawai.
We moved around a few times and a steady stream of fish came aboard including the odd Trevally and Gurnard, before a vicious looking storm chased us down to the wharf and the heavens opened."
How well everyone did will all be revealed at our next meeting, where prizes will be awarded to those who did exceptionally well. BRING A PLATE, and bring your Red Polo Shirt as someone will try and take a Club Photo (you honourable scribe is in Hospital to sort his ticker out, I'm afraid).
Our thoughts are with Kay who missed the Comp due to having fallen and broken her shoulder and wrist - Get Well Soon - KAY

04:30 A very early start with Reg, straight up to the Graveyard and into the Snapper.
It was a very quick trip as everyone onboard had their quota within 45 minutes. Within the hour we were homeward bound with 120 Snapper to be cleaned. Most were within 1.5 to 2 Kg with the biggest weighing in at 3Kg. There was a very nice Trevally weighing 3Kg landed by Dan as well. The water was flat calm, very unusual for the Graveyard and the rain held off so a very good day all round. - Well Done Reg!!!
